About us

Northumbria Blood Bikes is a charitable organisation established by local volunteers to deliver essential blood and other urgent medical supplies out of hours between hospitals and healthcare sites in North East England. Northumbria Blood Bikes will join a network of Blood Bikes or Blood Runners covering almost all of the UK. For a short introduction to what a blood bike group does, please watch the film below.

Northumbria Blood Bikes is proud to adopt the high standards required of us as a member of the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes. This includes standards on:

  • Advanced riding qualifications and responsible riding
  • Clothing to meet safety standards for riding and to present a professional image.
  • Adhering to standards for safe transport of medical supplies
  • Defined procedures and processes to ensure accountability, safe operation and professionalism.

Northumbria Blood Bikes is a Registered Charity with the Charity Commission (Registration Number: 1166689) and is registered with HMRC as a charity for tax purposes (Reference: XT37996).
